Magical Properties: Love, Attraction, Healing, Fidelity,
Healing Properties: Digestion, Increase ApatiteQuassia is an evergreen native to Jamaica which can grow up to 100ft tall. Medicinally, quassia is used for digestive issues, and increasing apatite. The bark - which is part of the plant used medicinally and magically - has no smell, but a distinct and intense bitter taste, hence its folk names bitter-ash and bitter-wood. The bark and root of the quassia plant are most often made into a tea to extract its medicinal qualities. In a concentrated form, it can be used as a mild insecticide.
To ensure fidelity of a lover, and improve communications within the relationship, place quassia root bark under your bed. Carry quassia root bark around your neck to attract a lover or maintain a current relationship. Include a tea made of quassia bark in your bathwater to aid in the healing of heartbreak. According to some traditions, quassia root bark can be used as a substitute for hair in combination with the desired individual's clothing for spell and rootwork. To do this, chop up a piece of the individual's clothing and mix it with quassia root bark and burn it to ash. Then rehydrate this ash mixture with controlling or commanding oil to complete the recipe. This technique should not be considered equal to having hair itself, and should not be relied upon, but could work in a pinch.
